The Tomb of the Unknown Slave, commemorated in the garden of St. Augustine Church on October 30, 2004, serves as a shrine to honor all slaves buried throughout the United States and those slaves in particular who lie beneath the ground in Treme in unmarked, unknown graves.

The new devotion provides a ritual remembrance for all of our ancestors, on whose shoulders we stand, and includes intercessory prayer for healing.
